Choose 2 Reuse your unwanted items!

WasteAware are asking Hertfordshire residents to 'Buy Now, Donate Later!'

Why not consider donating your unused everyday household items for re-use and help ‘close the loop’ in waste? A new project organised by the Choose 2 Reuse Behaviour Change Campaign is aiming to build a strong, sustainable 're-use' network in association with charity shops, to change consumer behaviour when it comes to donating and buying unwanted household items. The project aims to do this by:

Look out for campaign posters and leaflets highlighting the importance of re-use at your local charity and furniture re-use shops from this month. Buying used items not only prevents significant volumes of waste from going to landfill, but it supports the growth of charity and re-use channels across the county. You can do your part by donating useful and unique items, making them available at a very reasonable cost, and by buying pre-owned goods.

The campaign will support charity and furniture re-use shops by emphasising their need for good quality donations. So, when donating an item, consider first whether you would be happy to use or pay for it, and make sure it is safe to use. Charity shops will welcome clothing, books, videos, DVDs and more. Furniture projects welcome items including tables and chairs, wardrobes and sofas. These items can be re-sold to benefit the community, and may be made available to people on low incomes. If you are unsure whether your items are desirable to your local charity shop, please contact them beforehand.

In the time leading up to Christmas, what better way to be WasteAware than by donating unwanted items to a re-use scheme, as well as searching for valuable and unique items for great value for money?

The Choose 2 Reuse campaign offers simple advice to those considering buying products for re-use:
