Key Stage 2 'Challenge Waste!' is up, up and away!

The Hertfordshire WasteAware Partnership successfully launched the Key Stage 2 ‘Challenge Waste!’ education pack at Wheathampstead Development Centre on May 19th.

This item was added on 20th May 2005

This pack will now begin to spread across Hertfordshire in primary and special schools as Recycling Officers take it to them with a personal introduction.

The launch featured an appraisal of the pack by Hertfordshire’s geography advisor, Chris Gough, who remarked “The pack provides KS2 teachers with a unique opportunity to address the important issues of Sustainability and Waste Management as part of the Geography curriculum; in assemblies or for use in PHSE or as Citizenship exercises”.

Teachers who were able to attend also had the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into the pack, experimenting with a selection of the activities drawing on the knowledge of the District and Borough Recycling Officers were also present.

The pack, developed and published by WasteAware, was kindly sponsored by SQ Environmental Trust. Presenting key information about waste management issues, particular to Hertfordshire, this pack promises to be an invaluable and exciting new teaching resource closely linked to the National Curriculum.

All Hertfordshire schools were given the opportunity to attend the launch but if you were unable to get along then there are numerous introductory sessions across the county until July 14th in order for as many teachers as possible to sample what the pack has to offer. These sessions will also provide the opportunity to win a trip for two to The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan! View the pack online.
