Herts residents are picking up the rubbish message!

While Hertfordshire is above the national average in the recycling stakes*, four in five residents are concerned about the levels of household waste produced and want to do more to reduce it, according to the most recent WasteAware campaign survey.

In Hertfordshire, 92% of households now have a kerbside recycling service so it's never been easier to separate your waste for recycling. Once you know what can be recycled, it's surprising how easy it is to get in the habit.
'The WasteAware campaign is driving the message home and we're very pleased with the way that local people are responding to it according to the latest survey,' said Environment Executive Member Derrick Ashley. 'The campaign's promotion of 'reducing, re-using and recycling' waste products is obviously paying off; people's habits are changing and it's now easier to recycle than ever before with expanding kerbside collection schemes and improved facilities at Household Waste Recycling Centres.
And it's not just paper, cans and glass bottles that can be recycled - Household Waste Recycling Centres take empty aerosol cans, cardboard, glass jars, batteries, mobile phones, toner cartridges, plastic bottles, green garden waste and a whole host of other items!
(*Last year (2003/4) Hertfordshire recycled or composted 22% of its household waste. The national figures are not yet available but are expected to be around 17%.)
