Turn your garden into a summer haven

This item was added on 26th April 2006
As all green fingered gardeners know, good soil helps a beautiful garden grow.
That's why the Hertfordshire WasteAware Partnership, in association with selected garden centres, is lending a helping hand this summer by offering Blackwall home compost bins at a fraction of the usual price.
Composters recycle garden and kitchen waste to make a nutritious soil conditioner for the garden – an ideal, environmentally friendly substitute for peat.
Also, with months of below average rainfall putting Hertfordshire water supplies under pressure, WasteAware are offering reduced price water butts - great for collecting rainwater that can be used in the garden, for car washing and other outdoor jobs.
Previous schemes have been incredibly popular, with over 80,000 composters being delivered to Hertfordshire households.
'The contents of an average household's bin can be cut by one third through home composting, which proves that anyone can make a big difference to the environment,' said Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Environment.
'By investing in these special offers, residents can recycle waste, save water and feel a real sense of achievement as they turn their garden into an enjoyable place to relax during the summer.'
The composters are available in two sizes and are priced at just £7 and £9 (usual RRPs are £39.95 and £49.95). They are available from the following garden centres across Hertfordshire:
- Aylett Nurseries, North Orbital Road, London Colney, St Albans. Tel: 01727 822255
- Garden Scene, Chapelcroft, Chipperfield, Kings Langley, Tel: 01923 262492
- Riverside Garden Centre, Lower Hatfield Road, Hertford. Tel: 01992 501502
- Vanstone Park Garden Centre, Codicote, Near Hitchin. Tel: 01438 820412
Water butts, complete with rain diverter and childsafe lid are available for just £29.95 (usual RRP is £65.80) and can be ordered over the phone by calling 0870 844 3020 or online at www.getcomposting.com.
