Publication of the winning entry

  1. WasteAware, on behalf of Hertfordshire Waste Partnership, will arrange to print multiple copies of the recipe booklet, up to a cash limit of £1,500 for the winning school to sell.
  2. The winning entry will be scanned prior to reproduction to ensure that the finished article represents the format, as close as possible, to the entry submitted.
  3. It will be at the discretion of schools entering the competition whether or not to provide an electronic copy. Points will not be awarded or deducted due to the presence or absence of electronic versions.
  4. There is no limit to the minimum number of pages the booklet should include however it should not exceed 20 pages. Decisions over the size of the booklet will be left to the discretion of the schools. However, bigger booklets are likely to result in higher production cost per unit.
  5. Whilst WasteAware will pay for the winning booklet to be reproduced (up to a cash limit of £1500), any other costs incurred through selling the booklets will be borne by the winning school. For this reason it will be for the school to determine the price at which they wish to sell the recipe booklet.
  6. WasteAware reserve the right to amend the booklet if necessary and also to include Hertfordshire Waste Partnership information
  7. As well as being branded with the school logo, the winning entry will also be branded with the WasteAware logo, Love Food Hate Waste logo and Hertfordshire Environmental Forum (HEF) logo.

We would also like to use the opportunity to publicise your recipe booklet to a wider audience, in order to celebrate your achievements and raise the profile of our campaign.*

We take the issue of image consent very seriously, and would like to assure you that we will only publish material with your permission.

The following guidelines aim to minimise the bureaucracy with gaining consent for images:

1. When compiling the recipe booklet, some schools may like to include photographs featuring students to help illustrate their work. We are keen to publicise the winning booklet, so ask you to please ensure that if necessary, you only use photos of children for whom you have written parental consent. This consent should allow for the members of the Hertfordshire Waste Partnership (ten district/borough councils and the county council) to use the images for a minimum of two years for the following purposes:

Tip: It would be great if when compiling your booklet you could include an image that you think would work well in a newspaper i.e. that is eye catching and a good example of your work.

2. The headteacher or person overseeing the recipe booklet will be required to provide a covering letter to confirm that all relevant consent for any personal images has been obtained. If this is not possible, the recipe booklet will still be judged, but we will not publish material from it on our website, presentations etc.

3. Should you be a winner, we would like the opportunity to hold a prize-giving ceremony at your school. In the past this has usually been incorporated in an assembly. With your permission we would like to take and publicise photographs of this event, but will not photograph any children for whom we do not have permission. Please consider how you would deal with obtaining consents in advance of the event, and liaise with us about any students that are not to be photographed.

4. Many schools have a generic consent form that is filled in when a student starts school, which may cover this project. If not and you would like advice on what to do contact us.

We do not want the issue of consent to become onerous. Please contact us if you feel that issues around permission are discouraging you from entering the competition.
