Oil (Engine)

Oil (Engine)

Waste engine oil can be refined for re-use, and should never be disposed of through the sewerage system as it may be discharged into rivers or the sea. One litre of oil can contaminate hundreds of litres of water.
Used oil is more damaging to the environment than virgin oil as it contains contaminants from combustion in the engine such as chlorine, fluorine, sulphur, zinc and phosphorus.

Recycling oil not only reduces environmental pollution but it also reduces the demand for oil refinement.

Our recycling / disposal advice

Waste engine oil is collected at all Household Waste Recycling Centres for recycling. This facility is for oil originating from a household source onlyi.e. a home garage, no mechanic's oil is accepted.

Oil deposited in these banks is either re-used as a heating fuel or recycled into new oil.

Place the engine oil in the allocated container at the Household Waste Recycling Centre. If you are unsure about where to put it please ask the site operative.
