Cans (Aerosol)

Each year the UK uses approximately 600 million aerosols, which on average means that every person in the country uses 10 cans, or, that every household uses 27 cans.

Aerosols account for 4% of the metals found in the packaging waste stream, but if recycled, this 4% equates to approximately 25,000 tonnes of tinplated steel and 4,500 tonnes of high grade aluminium.

Our recycling / disposal advice

Aerosol cans are best mixed in with other metal waste as they should not be concentrated together.

All of Hertfordshire's Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) have recycling containers for the collection of aerosols. The same containers are used to collect food and drink cans/tins and foil. Some districts and boroughs in the County have bring-bank points for the collection of the same mix of metals.

Only empty aerosol cans should be put into the collection container. They should not be pierced or squashed.
