Car Batteries

Lead-acid batteries contain chemicals that have the potential to be hazardous to the environment. The batteries contain lead, a highly toxic metal, and sulphuric acid, a corrosive electrolyte solution. Since both of these materials are classified as hazardous, it is very important that the battery be handled and disposed of properly.
Lead-acid batteries arise at a rate of 100,000 tonnes per year of which about 7,000 - 10,000 are not collected and could potentially pollute landfill sites.
