Our Waste Strategy
Hertfordshire's county and district councils (the Hertfordshire Waste Partnership) have a strategy that sets out how waste is to be managed over the next 20 years.
How our strategy was developed
The Hertfordshire Waste Partnership reviewed the 2002 Waste Strategy and produced two new documents; a Draft Core Strategy and Draft Action Plan.
Between January and March 2007 we carried out a consultation to find out your views on dealing with Hertfordshire’s waste and comments on the draft documents. We were pleased to receive around 11,000 consultation responses.
Following the close of the consultation we analysed the results and used them to influence the final form of the documents. The updated strategy was approved by the Hertfordshire Waste Partnership in July 2007 and adopted by each authority in the following months. The Strategy was formally launched at a signing ceremony on 27 November 2007.
The Hertfordshire Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy

To review the 2002 Waste Strategy the Hertfordshire Waste Partnership (funded by DEFRA) commissioned Eunomia Research and Consulting. The information and recommendations contained in these documents were used to assist the development of the Core Strategy and Action Plan.

Strategic Environmental Assessment
This is an Environmental Report that has been produced as part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the Municipal Waste Management Strategy. The SEA is required by law for a number of statutory documents including Municipal Waste Management Strategies.
It aims to identify the environmental implications of a plan or strategy before it is adopted and its provisions are implemented. This allows the environmental impacts of proposals to be identified and eliminated or minimised whilst at the planning stage.
Hertfordshire's 2002 Joint Waste Strategy
This is the previous waste strategy, adopted after a public consultation in 2002. The Core Strategy and Partnership Action Plan have been developed as a review of this Strategy.
